Can you stand the enthusiasm?!
Day two was a tough one! Stand in line for two hours because your schedule is a mess---- Forget your lunch at home----- Leave your saxophone on the city bus---- Track down the bus and retrieve saxophone-- Play saxophone at the opening of a local baseball game----- Get locked out of your house because everyone locked their keys inside. Yikes!
The standout news.... He made All State for Bari sax!

Fall line-up
My Fall semester starts on the 27th. Here is the line-up... and a small commentary.
EDU 397 PK-8 Language Arts Methods: Methods (how-to) of teaching Language Arts (English) to kiddos!
EDU 331 Children's Literature and Critical Reading: Kinda says it all
EDU 395 Language Arts Field Experience: They set me loose with real kiddos!
SCI 225 Lecture and Lab: Science 225... dreaded by most in the teaching program. Basically it is baby physics & astronomy.
SCI 350 Environmental Perspectives: An overview of environmental issues. Ehhh, all of my Geology classes covered this same topic. New info?
14 credits plus outside of class time for my field experiences... Hopefully, I can keep all balls in the air!

Wrong Business
I spent the morning at the Orthodontist waiting for Resident teenager... I am in the wrong business!! The waiting room was packed with crooked teeth! All of the parents had the same glazed look... $$$$. And the Ortho doesn't work on Monday...

The Healing Continues
Proof that I can make more than pie...
Penne Beef & Arugula. The sauce consists of olive oil, balsamic vinegar, and Dijon mustard.

Sushi Sister
I lunched with one of my sisters earlier this week. It was her birthday present to me... Yeah, my birthday was in June.
For a starter we chose sesame chicken, very yummy!
When I suggested Sushi Hana and sushi I just figured my sister had been there. Come to think of it I think that she took my boys out to dinner there... Curious.
We each ordered our own lunch plate. Yes, I used a fork... I used chopsticks to eat my cucumber salad... not pretty! Notice the innocuous green avocado looking blob at the bottom of my plate. Yep, she thought it was avocado... it is wasabi----a hot Japanese horseradish. You should have seen her face.... picture Calvin from Calvin and Hobbes when he pulls faces over dinner.
In retrospect, maybe I should have told her--- in my defense I thought she knew!
Then she tried to pink stuff--- pickled ginger---again the face! Maybe I should have told her about that... I thought she knew.

Mathematical Uterus
While reading the Guardian I came across this article. I promptly read it, I can't pass up a good uterus graphic... I mean who can? Very thought provoking-----
Amazingly, I know about the Golden Ratio as I am somewhat obsessed with Fibonacci numbers. This is further proof that Maths (I am feeling slightly British today) are EVERYWHERE! I mean, even a uterus can't escape the powerful grips of Maths! Stranger still--- how does one decide to measure 5,000 uteruses/uteri (both forms are correct plural usage, I checked!)?
Can you imagine the dinner conversation?
Wife: How was your day?
Dr Gyno: Oh, you know same as usual, measuring uteri/uteruses to see if they fit the Golden Ratio.
Wife: That's nice. More wine?

Educational Conversations
Conversation outside of the pool:
Me: Why is Resident teenager still wearing his swim trunks?
The Hubs: He didn't want to free ball it?
Me: blink blink blink
The Hubs: You know go commando?
Me: -with wide eyes- Good to know!
Another phrase to add to my personal dictionary!

Pie Part Deux
I know that blueberries are a super food... cocky little buggers, so I thought I would give another berry its due. I am still on my healing quest so I made blackberry pie. I used the same recipe as I did for the blueberry one. I am either going to heal the Hubs or make him diabetic...

Conspiracy
I'm not talking about a vast right wing conspiracy or a vast left wing conspiracy... I am talking about a much more nefarious conspiracy... the one in which I run out of everything all at once! What is the deal?
Shampoo: dregs
Conditioner: dregs
Powder foundation: pathetic
Shaving cream: one more shave
Floss: yep, that too!
Mascara: past its prime
Ugghhhh! Maybe the Tea Party is to blame...

Buy Me
Maybe I watch too much HGTV... But I wouldn't take a brochure from this yard. I hope the black plastic and derelict freezer come included in the purchase price!

Fair
True confession time----I hate the fair. I don't enjoy the rides, the food or the atmosphere----read the heat, crying tired kids, and crazy carni folks! Yet, I end up at the fair every year. The Western Montana Fair comes to town every August, the hottest driest month of the year. The Boys love the fair, of course. Resident teenager and Resident little dude like the rides and the Hubs has fond memories from his childhood. I grew up overseas, so I am a mutant fair hater.
The only thing that makes the fair tolerable for me is the company (the Hubs is a sweetie insert ahhhh here) and the 4-H animals.
The cleanest business end at the fair.
This sweet little goat has some issue... Kneeling in your food dish... Is that a good idea?
I'm not sure if this cow is a kicker, antisocial, homicidal maniac, or what. This cow was the only caution labeled cow at the fair.
I dub thee Diva Sheep!
Resident little dude decides he wants to go on the zipper. I was adamant that he wasn't tall enough... He was! There is something very disconcerting about my baby (yeah , he is 9 but he is my BABY) dangling in the air.
He looks a little worse for the wear, but no permanent damage. I think that I suffered permanent damage!
When we can't stand the heat we take refuge in the model home, the only air conditioned place at the fair. Resident little dude fell in love with the tub in the master bathroom, nice place for a nap!
I didn't leave the fair empty handed... The Roto-Rooter booth handed out free TP! Score...

Game Night Geek Style
The Boys love to play board games! Of course, we have Star Wars Monopoly! I don't remember the last time we played "regular" Monopoly.
One of the best things about Star Wars Monopoly is the character pieces, no boring shoe or dog!
Me: warrior kick-a$$ Princess Leia
The Hubs: Darth Vader
Resident little Dude: General Grievous
Resident teenager: Yoda
The Hubs won... Which doesn't appeal to my competitive side, but he is convalescing so I must let go.

The Healing Quality of Pie
I am still on a mission to heal the Hubs with food. Yeah, über scientific, but I have to work within my constraints---- read I am not a doctor.
I decided that pie, especially pie with a crumb topping, can heal cervical disk replacements. I'm sure the AMA will publish this is in a medical journal soon. Since I used raw organic sugar, organic Greek yogurt (Fage--- we like to discuss pronunciation over breakfast), and organic blueberries--- this pie also qualifies as a health food. Score!!!
And I made the whipped cream... I guess that makes me a pie healer AND a baker.

Curiosity
Simply amazing!! An 8 month trip, high tech parachute, pyrotechnics, and a sky crane... This is what math and science can do! I can't wait until we get "the good" pictures. Mars geology, here we come!
Yes, I watched the landing live on NASA TV on my iPad... My sister is mocking me right now. Ehhhh, I am a science nerd... We don't worry about mocking sisters!

I Don't Get It
I've spent a lot of time at home the past week tending to the Hubs as he recovers from surgery. I finished my summer semester, so I have plenty of time for my unoccupied mind to wonder. No matter how long I ruminate over the following---I don't get it!
Chicken and dumplings... Seems healing to me.
- Gymnastics code of points. Let's apply this to real life, "Little Johnny, the best score you can get on this test is an 80%.". What?!
- The swimsuits worn by the men's diving team. I don't need to see crack during the Olympics.
- Binary code
- 14 year olds
- Tube tops
- Daytime TV
- Ladies/girls undies cost more for less
- Colored jeans
- Bra sizing
- Dresses with jeans worn underneath
- Grey hair
- Dressage
- NBC.... The Curiosity (latest Mars rover) will stream video of its landing with a 14 minute delay----from Mars!
Chicken and dumplings... Seems healing to me.

The Basics
It's strange... when you have a baby all you talk about is poop. Seriously, all parents talk about poop. As the kiddos get older you talk about it less and less. Yet, anytime there is a sickness in the family---what do you talk about? Poop. The most basic of human needs seem to take over our entire though process.
Now that the Hubs is home and semi comfortable I worry about the basics. Poop. Surgery has a way of taking you down to the basics.
I took the boys to Target with me today. Usually, I go by myself as to enjoy the experience. I am browsing the laxative section because I am taken over by Hubs' basic needs. Resident teenager pipes up, "Who would want a suppository?" This is funny because he only has one voice volume... LOUD! I try and extol the virtues of suppositories. Priceless... his face was priceless!
So, it seems that I have come full circle... back to Poop!
